The park is part of the Semuliki valley which spreads out on the remote side that is in the western part of the Rwenzori Mountains. The largest portion of the park is made up of an unspoiled low-land forest that is an extension of the Ituri Forest spilling over from the Democratic Republic of Congo across Semuliki river.
The vast Ituri forest covers a large tract of land in the Congo basin and then extends all the way to the Congo River.
