Bundibugyo town is strategically located in Western Uganda approximately 378 kilometres from the capital, Kampala. The distance is also about 6 hours drive time from the capital. The town sits at an altitude of 900 meters (3,000 ft) above sea level, bordering Lake Albert in the north, Kabarole district in the east, Kasese district in the south, and the Democratic Republic of Congo in the west.
Bundibugyo was part of Toro Kingdom, but when the kingdoms were abolished in 1967, Toro Kingdom attained a district status. So, in 1974, Semuliki district was carved out of Toro district and in 1980 it was re-named Bundibugyo.
The predominant ethnic tribe in the town are the Bamba and the Bakonjo.

Toro – Semuliki Wildlife Reserve Near Bundibugyo Town
Toro- Semuliki Wildlife Reserve is located in western Uganda within the districts of Ntoroko and Kabarole, that’s about one hour drive from Bundibugyo town. The wildlife reserve has got different activities and attractions one can participate in and enjoy. These include game drives, hiking to Nyaburogo gorge, bird watching, a boat cruise along Lake Albert, visiting the local community and nature walks and among others.
Mountain Rwenzori National Park
Mountain Rwenzori National Park is a UNESCO world heritage site that lies in Kasese district in western Uganda. That’s about 64km from Bundibugyo district.
