About Semuliki National Park
Semuliki National Park is located in Bwamba County, a remote part of the Bundibugyo district, in western Uganda. It was made a national park in October 1993 and is one of Uganda’s newest national parks. East Africa’s only lowland tropical rainforest of 194 km2 (75 sq mi) in size is found in this park.
Semuliki National Park sprawls across the floor of the Semuliki Valley on the remote, western side of the Rwenzori Mountain National Park. The park is dominated by the easternmost extension of the great Ituri Forest of the Congo Basin. This is one of Africa’s most ancient and bio-diverse forests; one of the few to survive the last ice age, 12,000 -18,000 years ago.
Guests to Semuliki can plan to make an extension safari in Rwanda to visit the mountain gorillas in the Volcanoes and wildlife in Akagera National Park. Rwanda is blessed with the most pristine Nyungwe Forests National Park famous for chimpanzee safaris in Rwanda
